Just Friends
April 22, 2006 by haziamyperspective
Not too long ago, I used to have a best friend. He lived in the Lion City. Oh, he was truly unique, one of a kind.
He was the 6th of 7 children, his father passed away when he was 4 years old. His mother had done all sorts of odd jobs to make ends meet, from selling ‘kuih’ to washing clothes. A bright student, he got a scholarship and landed a job with 1 of the tech giants.
I would get these ‘buzzes’ unexpectedly at work. He was always online sharing his colorful interests – a link to Bollywood (he loved Hindi movies), MP3 of an Arab song (he has versatile taste in music) and sometimes texting me on my mobile when he was watching TV3’s Cerekarama or 8TV Malaysia’s Most Beautiful.
He thrilled on Malay movies. He would catch the latest movies in JayBee and texted me while I was watching the same movies in Kayeel. We shared the love for theatre, always updating each other on the latest plays. What’s more, we’re both fans of Coffee Bean’s hot Mocha and Chicago cheese cake:)
He was always there for me, cheering me on during the ups and patiently comforting me during the downs.
I got used to having him around, to trusting him, to depending on him …he was the kind of guy that girls run to with their problems…which was what I naturally did. I shared everything with him, from the usual daily encounters to the occasional dramatic outbursts;)
And then suddenly, just like that…he ‘DISAPPEARED’. No more music, no more laughter, just total silence.
Looking back now, I realised that he was always ‘the giver’ and I was always ‘the taker’. Our friendship wouldn’t have lasted anyway.
Pss…Of course there’s more to the story. Ask me if you want to know.
This one is for you, Wan! Maybe one day there will be a place for me in your life again. I’ll always miss you:(
