Sole Survivor

Our weekly staff meeting this morning was unusually long, not the normal brief updates operational style affair. At the end of it came shocking news - 4 people have tendered their resignations. Well, these people were at different stages of their lives and career, so there was no common reason for their leaving.
I got a sudden rush of feeling, one that I normally have when colleagues left. It was like I have gone through the tried and tested and somehow survived! Imagine being on the TV reality show Survivor. There was no fool proof strategy or tactic, the game changed with different players and challenges.
Several players were strong, maybe because they were streetsmart or simply due to popularity. They became the king or queen of the ring. Sure, you could form alliance with ‘the lucky ones’ and a few others, but what happen when your accomplice leave? Then, you may be forced to tie up with your enemies. It was similar to the Wheel of Fortune, one time you were up, next you were out of luck and you fell down to your lowest.
I’ve seen the wheel rotate very quickly during my stint here. In fact, this was the fastest I’ve encountered during my entire career. The Cinderella of
yesterday might become the Princess of tomorrow. One should be careful how he or she treated others, what you do now may come back to haunt you later.
Or you could just do what I did. Don’t play the game altogether and still survive without compromising your integrity or your values. I’m still here, aren’t I?;) Counting days…
