Dawn Inspirations

Today is the fourth day in a row that I woke up 30 minutes earlier than usual. Why? To tap into my ‘fertile period’ and produce my best written work.
I’m attending a creative writing workshop conducted by a niche bookstore. It is a 10 weeks’ course, every Saturday, 10.30 am to 12.30pm.
The first assignment was to wake up 30 minutes earlier and write 1000 words each morning for 2 weeks straight. There is no specific topic, no plotting / thinking / logic / editing involved. All you need to do is pour everything out, let it flow. You’re not even supposed to read what you have written. Our instructor would not read it at any point of time either. So, this is strictly personal.
After 2 weeks, you’ll be reading it and deciding whether you can use it for your future work. I believe that I have lots of useful stuff there already, hehe…Not to mention, it helps release a bit of tension before going to work.
What I like most about the class was that the instructor acknowledged the fact that most writers are very private people. Therefore, he respected our privacy and didn’t ask any intrusive questions.
One of the participants didn’t seem to get that vibe though. First thing she asked all of us (like within 3 minutes after arrival) was where did we work. I may work at a prestigous PR firm but on weekends, I am myself. I hate to be associated with my work or my employer, it restricts my freedom.
All in all, I look forward to the next class.
