Hikayat & Fairy Tales

Puteri Gunung Ledang (PGL) is now in Singapore. I spoke to someone this morning who said that he dozed off during the screening last night. Mann!
PGL carries a special memory to me. When I was at the hotel, we made a very last minute decision to become a sponsor. I was consulted and I agreed to it despite of us having to drop everything. The hotel was accorded with a TV interview on prime time news. I had a tough task of preparing our media-hater, no-nonsense, Swiss Resident Manager in only 30 minutes. It was just my luck that our charming, very media savvy, Danish GM was away overseas.
One of the things we were involved in was the press junket. Italian entertainment journalists were flown in to KL. We helped the organiser ‘baby sit’ them for a few days. We even invited them to the hotel’s Mooncake Festival organised for the local media. They were reviewing the film for the prestigious Cannes Festival. In fact, that was the first and only time I have sat in for a press conference conducted in Italian:)
How we explained PGL to them? We said it was a combination of 2 legends which took place at the same time but was not in 1 fairy tale; equivalent to mixing Cinderella and Robin Hood:)
We experienced days of ’shifting schedule’. Our German coleague said the Italians threw their watches into the river; no sense of time at all, hehe…They were a fun bunch though:)
Its PGL, the musical that was staged in Singapore recently. And I dozed off 3 times! hehe But thats an improvement from watching the film ok. Give me an independent low budget films like Sepet and Gubra anytime baby! I watched Sepet abt 10X I think. hehe. And as I predicted…. it is Yasmin’s films that will clinch awards from film festivals….NOT the expensive PGL lah. SORRY Tiara…its the truth nothing but the truth. Ouch!
I love Yasmin’s movies. But I like PGL too - visually pleasing, hehe…
