My Haj 7: A Phone Call
January 24, 2007 by haziamyperspective
While in Mecca, I switched off my mobile phone until after the ’stone throwing in Mina’. I only communicated through sms. Apart from a phone call from a head hunter and my family members, I didn’t talk to anyone else. That is except him. He was back in KL for a few days for holiday. I was delayed so we didn’t get to meet anyway.
He has given me his friend/mentor mobile phone number in KL. I sms him a few times on my flight schedule and delay. Aware that the friend knew nothing of me, I tried to make my messages as formal as possible. I was hoping that he’d be able to read between the lines. Well, his friend did first! He was furious with him for not wanting to tell him more about me. He even threathened to give my number to his mum. LOL!
His friend kindly said that they were having lunch on 9 January and I could call then. We were so used to chatting everyday, sharing every little detail of our lives. Imagine our conversation after 3 weeks of silence!
I wanted to hear his story and wanted to share my story at the same time; I didn’t even know where to start. Also, his friend was watching plus I didn’t want to wipe out his battery. So, we ended the conversation after 30 minutes. Only then did I realise how much I missed him.
We’re back online. Now that he is based in their HQ in Houston for a month, I think the time zone is more convenient. Also, he has been up at night too to do his PHD assignment. He was lucky to get to stay at a well-furnished house with a nice big garden.
Yesterday, he shared his Christmas vacation photos at his aunt’s countryside home in Nice, France. There was one with everybody sitting down for Christmas Eve’s dinner - he used this to introduce his family members, including his Italian granny - so cute:)
I think he also wanted to again stress that his family is more Western than Asian.
i am always interested in stories of u guys.. hopefully dia tak marah i suka menyebuk nak tau kisah cinta korang hehehe
hazia…tak teringin ker nak tunjuk gambar dia *hint hint* ..
ala.. kalu keluarga dia more western pun no hal la kan.. as long as u guys share the same values.. *pure good hearts*.. cultural differences can be dealth with slowly.. i should know la kan.. :0)
dealt with.. ops..sorry salah type
Hahahaha…Simah, u r so funny. Dia tak kisah. Yr optimism does help, my other blog readers aren’t optimistic at all. My friends are though:)
Hari tu I post his pic (posing macam Gergio Armani), dia minta remove, hehe…Other guys from my past were flattered to have their pics on my blog. He’s different la. Oh, he looks Mat Salleh, his mum’s Italian gene is very strong. His bro and sis pun. Tak nampak macam mix, brown hair, green eyes, etc.
You’re right about cultural differences; luckily he’s used to being posted to several godforsaken countries, so he’s quite pro at that.
