Of Scrooge & 2nd Husbands
February 26, 2007 by haziamyperspective
Around 4.30pm just now, I suddenly got an sms from my ex-classmate from school saying that he happened to be near my office. I’ve been chatting with him almost daily, but we haven’t seen each other since our 10th year reunion in Penang in 1999. We had no problem in recognising each other though:)
I managed to rope in my ex-roommate who worked across the road. Amazingly, she said she could join us immediately; wow, what happen to the workaholic?
So the 3 of us sat at the swimming pool cafe nearby, slowly warming up to each other’s tales. The stories started to unfold, petal by petal. In no time at all, a whole garden blossomed.
We were shocked by where our ex-schoolmates had gotten then. From the look of things, my single ex-roommate and I joked that by the time we do get married, several of our friends would already be well onto their fourth husbands (yeah, I mean husbands, not wives…our guy friends were a bit ’slow’ in this matter). Talk about progress! LOL!
Heroine 1: The Had-It-All:
A girl and her second husband are doing her PHD in UK now. She is pregnant with her second child (their first child together). Sounds great right, PHDs, husband, a baby along the way…except that she is very ‘disturbed’. Her ex-husband ’stole’ her child, she had custody but she wasn’t suppose to leave the country. Also, her present husband was an old flame; his family made him marry a girl from a prominent family. So, the man’s family didn’t consent to their marriage - after all, their extra-marital affair did break up their earlier marriages.
Heroine 2: The Rich Man’s Wife
A girl whose ambition was to marry a rich man ever since school days did just that. Her husband was a wealthy Indonesian, except that his family was very ‘controlling’. So after 6 months, they got a divorce. She later married a musician from a popular recording group during our school days. She ‘disappeared’ and her mother has been looking for her for ages.
Hero 1: The Scrooge
Now this guy is something. He has been working in Germany for quite a while. A cash man, he doesn’t own a car or property. Earning big bucks abroad, he is now a millionaire. However, that did come from literarily saving every penny. Everytime he was back in the country, he expected a friend to pick him up from his parents place, treat him to a meal/drink and then send him back home. Yeah, like a girl on a date. Our friends have stopped seeing him.
Hero 2: The Datuk
Known for his good looks, he used to model for several TV commercials. Son of a Minister and a cronny, this ‘popular among the girls in school’ Romeo has his own business (set up by his father of course). He has also gotten a Datukship, not bad at 34. I remember back in school when he participated in a school concert. He refused to rehearse with the other because it seemed that he has ‘the golden voice’ and only the actual concert was good enough for him. Yeah!
With great difficulty, we finally ended the ’round table discussion’. We said goodbye but promised to keep each other up-to-date on the latest bits, hehe…These may just be gossips, but they were still juicy:p.

Wah not bad not bad hmm…
Wonder how story will come out like..at 15yr reunion…Sure drama punya. Punya setakat Datuk, dah Tan Sri kot. LOL!
