Upeh Hut’s Tales
July 30, 2007 by haziamyperspective
I have been looking through my collection of short stories. I realised the reason why I’ve not been creating any outrageous story purely sparked by imagination.
It’s because I already have a lot to write about based on my real-life experience only. So, if I were going ahead in this direction, I want to capture every significant stage of my life. Hence, below is my first story inspired from my boarding school days.
There would be more to come from this Upeh Hut’s Sailor:D
Chemistry Garden - First Cut
My shoe lace came undone so I squatted down near the large red brick pillar. Suddenly, I heard a loud cheering and clapping sound along the corridor. The boys took turn to whistle loudly. Looking up, I noted their object of affection.
Eight nearly bald boys in light blue shirt and dark blue pants were marching down the staircase. A short boy with piercing eyes walked ahead, arrogantly. That was Budi, their leader. Chemistry class starts in 20 minutes. Two steps behind them was the Lionel Richie look-alike Cikgu Zahri, the warden and chemistry teacher. Naturally, they would not be leaving the dormitory that early or at all if left on their own.
Hearing the noise, the boys looked slightly embarrassed. Laughing and putting on a macho expression, they continued walking quickly behind Budi.
The Kojak group, as they were now known, was famous throughout the whole school. They have broken every single rule ever laid and gotten the principal’s and wardens’ hands full. They were made to stand on chairs in the hot sun for hours while the other students watched them and laughed. They had to do pumping on the wet grass thirty times. They had to run around the track ten times. They had even been canned in public. Unfortunately, punishment after punishment had no effect on them.
Last month, they went too far. With the help of the canteen operator, they smuggled marijuana. They skipped class and were found in the bathroom, high from inhaling the drug.
Enough was enough. It was the young and dedicated Cikgu Zahri who came out with the innovative idea.
