Our Second Book Review
December 20, 2007 by haziamyperspective
News from Home; a compilation of short stories by Chua Kok Yee, Shih - Li Kow & Rumaizah Abu Bakar. From the creators of Silverfish Writing Series, another brainchild is born, new writers with an assortment of stories to tell, compiled to create this book with bite sized stories that can be read without putting the book down to continue again. The writers, who have completed the Silverfish Writing Programme produced stories a plenty, polished their gems and there you have the book above.
Personally, this would be one of the books I’d finished as compared to the many books still lying all over my room. The stories are , like I said, dim sum sized, designer sized short stories and I trust that those with short attention span may find some stories of interest amongst the 30 short stories. Ranges from ghost story, love story, fantasy, horror all with a Malaysian flavour, hence the series is called Malaysian Literature in English.
The few pieces to look for, The Fox and The Dog, Three Little Pigs, Peach Blossom Luck, Don’t Depend on Me and Chestnut Chocolate Mooncake to name a few.
Its price at RM30, but its worth more than that with the collection of stories from these virgin writers. Do get one, and support our literary community.
