Purple Umbrella
December 26, 2007 by haziamyperspective
It was drizzling when I left my office. At the Masjid Jamek LRT station, 2 women were selling folded umbrellas at RM5 each. I got a purple one, a beautiful shade in the rainy evening darkness. But only when I got back did I realise it was actually gaudy bright purple, LOL! Anyway, it was useful because it was pouring when I arrived at my condo, the entrance was flooded again too.
How was my second day? I was glad to have the day off yesterday. At least, I got to re-charge. Today was another hectic day, rushing to fine-tune the proposal for my meeting with the new MD tomorrow morning. A group asked me to join them for lunch, I barely had time as I had to run the proposal by my immediate boss at 2.30pm. But I learnt my lesson a long time ago. Proving expertise had never been my problem, it had always been colleagues/social skills. So, I chucked it aside and had a leisure lunch anyway.
I met my other executive (the one under probation), seemed like he decided to suck up to me. Just got my first media event, they said it is a routine thing, can refer to old templates. However, while briefing my staff on the speeches, I realised that that is not the case. It happened to be our new MD first media encounter, launching him of sort, so I’d have to go the extra mile.
There was an email from another department on a miscellaneous caller pestering several staff, she wanted the hp of the girl in charge. She was on leave and I made a decision not to bother her. I’ll clarify our workscope with my boss first thing tomorrow instead.
I finally got my PC. Though yahoo is allowed, there is no access to YM or MSN, heheh! Thank god I’ve cured my addiction.
Oh, another grand finale for the day. Remember the one who shared my office? He only turned up for work at 5.40pm just now. By then, I was so busy and so at home that I felt as if he was walking into my office, rather than me intruding his space. Probably he thought I’d be gone by 5.30pm.
Without saying a word, he just walked in and placed 2 boxes behind his desks. Then, noticing that his chair was at my desk (someone pulled it to talk to me), his first words were, "Are you using the chair?" Then he sat at his desk and I greeted him. Guess what he said, "Welcome on the board (not ‘onboard’).
Anyway, I’d have to give him kudos for maintaining his macho-ness. Having been in the same situation before, I didn’t recall being that macho when faced with the enemy who took the position I so much wanted.LOL!
