A Gallopy Weekend
January 21, 2008 by haziamyperspective
Gosh, what a weekend it was! I felt like everything was crammed together.
Work…
I was so looking forward to my writers’ group monthly meeting on Saturday morning for weeks already only to be disappointed at the 11th hour. Sigh! We were summoned to a management meeting with our new MD. I was in charge of taking the minutes, so imagine the level of concentration I had to master on my day-off. LOL!
I think everybody was wary and cautious at first but relaxed and spoke up in the end. We had a nice packed lunch of nasi briyani ayam after that. I actually enjoyed it, everybody chattering away. Someone suggested horseback riding as a staff activity. Apparently, its our MD’s favourite sport. He said you really learn control and also to master your emotions, because the horse will mirror whatever emotions you’re feeling, and it could get tricky.
Stories…
From Saturday evening onwards, I discovered that Heroes was aired non-stop on Starworld, probably for more than 6 hours. I caught that. I caught another round on Sunday afternoon till night (after my arranged date;)). Now, that’s a story. Somehow, after a heavy meeting, my right brain was re-charged to achieve the balance. I finally managed to complete my long pending short fiction, ‘The Other Woman P.I’. I think I started it way back in September. LOL!
A Date…
Oh, I also had to postpone my 3rd arranged date by the agency to Sunday. This time it was lunch at a Japanese restaurant in Bangsar. We ordered Terriyaki Salmon Steak set & appetiser and shared. We both weren’t really hungry after a heavy breakfast.
How was the candidate? Hmm.. we had a lot in common, he’s an expat Creative Director with an international advertising agency (same industry) and he loves reading, I mean REALLY loves reading. He also likes painting. He said that before the techy wave came along, art & design students need to be able to paint, unlike nowadays, everything is by computer, ideas are so stiff and rigid.
He is broad-minded and well-travelled. He left his hometown Mumbai years ago and had worked in many Asian countries, the last being Singapore. He said the Lion City was making him lazy, the advertising target audience wasn’t diversified. He got another offer to Brisbane but he said people there are laidback and lazy. He’ll consider it in 10 years time though.
Anyway, he was happy with his career move decision to KL, multi-racial, multi-states. Well, it’s a creative director’s haven. It doesn’t get anymore challenging than this. He lived nearby too and suggested meeting again after he’s back from his younger brother’s wedding in Mumbai in 2 weeks.
