Part of the Solution

I’ve spent the last few days watching Prison Break DVDs, 4 episodes at every stretch. I’m already at disk 6 - the last one. The most memorable quote was by the prison’s beautiful Dr Sarah aka Gavernor’s daughter - "I believe in being part of the solution."
It struck home on Monday morning when I attended the Civil servants annual Majlis Perdana at Putrajaya International Convention Centre graced by the PM himself. The cab I booked had to take me there much earlier, it was still dark when I arrived. The place was like a fairytale at dawn, the lights gave it a magical touch.
I was so reluctant to attend at first, thinking how fluffy the agenda looked, and what a waste of time it would be. Before I knew it, I had sunk into the spirit of the occasion, singing along with the INTAN choir and all. My favourite song is as below.
Aku cari bukan harta bertimbun-timbun
Untuk hidup kaya
Aku cari bukan wang berjuta-juta
Untuk hidup bergaya
Aku cari bukan kawan-kawan
Untuk hidup sekadar berfoya-foya
Aku cari mana dia Al-Ghazali
Aku cari mana dia Al-Shafie
Kita bongkar rahsia kitab suci
Lyric: Pak Lah
Song: Ramli Sarip
Surprise, surprise! I actually benefited from the event. Bingo! I realised that I had a mind shift there and then. I could not longer close an eye on the ugliness around me and say ‘that’s not my problem.’ Now that I’m with a government agency, it is my problem! I could feel the extra weight on my shoulders. It’s not just a job, it’s a responsibility to the country. Not only it is heavier, the obstacle is also greater as things seldom move smoothly and solutions are hardly clear cut.
