Passing the Test
March 21, 2008 by haziamyperspective
I didn’t get to update on this. On election day, I shared 2 new stories with my instructor, ‘When Fat Girl Meets Italian Stud’ and ‘Water Warrior’. I was so confident with the later, it being my boarding school story. My confident is so fragile on the former, it is one of the many pillars of my story of Ad, the green-eye man.
Imagine my shock with the verdict. He said in ‘Water Warrior’, I was afraid of getting too close to the main character, as if I was looking at things from a microscope. Try a different point of view instead ie the school rebel. That would be tough, yeah, but it’s a challenge. Also, the ending was like a Tamil movie where the bad guys become good. LOL!
As for ‘When Fat Girl Meets Italian Guy’, he said the story ‘works’ and.. it is a good story. Wow! He said he wasn’t sure if the hero would get better and if the girl would marry him… so the element of suspense was strong. The writing was a bit flabby though, so he had trimmed it. Finally, my first story for this year that passed his test:)
